Wireless as a way of life

Wireless as a way of life

With network connectivity a factor in many students' choice of college or university, higher education institutions worldwide are choosing Meru Networks for campus-wide deployments. Each semester, thousands of freshmen arrive with a diverse range of laptops and other devices, expecting to connect wirelessly.
No longer just a convenience, the wireless LAN has become the main way that most users reach the campus network and beyond. Wireless devices have already changed the way students live, study and communicate.

Designed for the All-Wireless Enterprise

From the beginning, Meru designed its network for the All-Wireless Enterprise: an organization that never needs to depend on wires for connectivity. College students who have grown up in a world without wires need a network that can combine high performance with mobility, while IT needs to provide high density coverage without sacrificing performance or reliability.
Meru's virtualized Wireless LAN architecture offers students and faculty a wired-like user experience, combined with fast deployments, simple management and a low total cost of ownership.
  • Wireless Like Wire. Meru's virtualized wireless LAN offers all the performance that users expect from wired Ethernet combined with the mobility of cellular.
  • Quality of Service. Data applications get all the bandwidth they need while toll-quality voice is assured.
  • Fewer Access Points. Meru requires fewer access points on campus than other solutions, stretching IT dollars further and simplifying management.
  • Airtime Fairness. Each client in a packed lecture hall gets a fair share of the airwaves, letting legacy clients coexist peacefully with the latest 802.11n devices.
  • Strong Security and Simple Management. It is easy to control the diverse devices that students connect to a network, ensuring that badly-behaved clients do not affect overall performance or compromise security.

Indonesian Networks Expect a Slow-Down in Profit Growth

By: Ian Mansfield |
Indonesia's three largest telecoms network operators, XL Axiata, Indosat and Telkomsel have said that they are likely tosee decreased profit growth this year.
PT Xl Axiata executive director Hasnul Suhaimi said the decline was likely caused by the saturated voice-based market. "Everybody now tends to seek alternative services rather than voice-based," the Jakarta Post quotes him as saying, citing a report by tempointeraktif.
He added that this year profit would likely increase by 6 to 7 percent.
PT Indosat public relations division head Djarot Handoko confirmed declining profit expectations but stated that it was due to the blocking of recent premium services by the government.

HELIAX® AVA Cable for Wireless Applications Part of the HELIAX 2.0 family of products

With AVA coaxial cable, system designers and operators can cut cable subsystem costs and gain tower height at the same time. Engineers can now meet system link budgets using AVA5-50 7/8” coaxial cable in certain taller tower applications instead of a 1-1/4” cable which would have previously been required or AVA7-50 1-5/8” coaxial cable in site applications that would normally require 2-1/4” cable. In addition, AVA7-50 can be used in typical 1-5/8” applications with the benefit of lower system loss.

Manufactured worldwide, AVA cables can be at your site quickly via our global distribution network. Or simply order an Andrew Solutions OnePackSM Site Kit with AVA cable for even faster, more consistent site buildouts.

Designed and engineered with both your link and cost budgets in mind, HELIAX AVA coaxial cable continues the long-standing tradition of quality and excellence that HELIAX has delivered to the communication industry for decades.

OneBase® Tower Mounted Amplifiers

Andrew Solutions tower mounted amplifiers (TMAs) are installed near the Tx/Rx antenna at the top of a cell tower. A base station antenna transmits a much stronger signal than what it receives back from the mobile phone, but the TMA corrects this imbalance. This uplink improvement with a stronger, clearer signal results in fewer dropped calls, improved call quality, and better coverage. And, with 3G networks now beginning to be deployed, there is an increased need for TMAs due to data service speeds and the need for added link margin.

700 MHz for LTE – TMA
Andrew Solutions Tower Mounted Amplifiers
Tower Mounted Amplifier products are now available in our industry leading 4th generation OneBase® platform, which includes the following features and benefits:
    TMA E15Z01P07
  • Smaller, lighter form factor reduces tower loading and leasing costs
  • Cost-efficient twin and dual-band configurations reduce CAPEX
  • AISG capability enables integration and control of tower-top components
  • VSWR monitoring of the antenna port connections minimizes downtown
  • Intelligent dc power and AISG switching supports power/AISG redundancy and provides enhanced versatility and interoperability
  • Backward compatibility with 2G BTS equipment

Argus Jumps to CommScope

Argus Jumps to CommScope: pCommScope completes the strategic acquisition of Argus, which is based in Australia and provides high capacity antennas for large venues. The expanded antenna solutions portfolio and deeper research and development capabilities help CommScope meet the next generation growth requirements in the wireless market./p

A hearty welcome to the Argus Technologies team! They have joined CommScope now that the acquisition is complete.
We certainly are glad to add their excellent technology, proven innovation and specialized solutions such as high capacity antennas for large venues. Argus, based near Sydney, has been a well-respected competitor in the wireless network antenna market since its founding in 1994. Now, we expect that their many strengths and talents will enable us at CommScope to broaden our antenna solutions portfolio, deepen our research and development capabilities, strengthen our global market presence and accelerate our overall growth in the wireless market.

This is an interesting—and promising—time for providers of antennas, and all other infrastructure, in the wireless market. The demand for bandwidth and growth in network traffic continues to drive investment into infrastructure. And the evolution to next generation technologies, whether 2G to 3G, or 3G to 4G, is creating new opportunities for deployment of innovative antenna technologies as part of an overall RF Path solution, such as the solutions provided by CommScope.
Bandwidth requirements also are driving growth—and needs for more innovative solutions—in the other markets we serve. That is one major reason behind another recent strategic acquisition we made, that of Montreal-based LiquidxStream, which became part of CommScope in June. LiquidxStream is helping us move more deeply and quickly into advanced solutions for the cable TV market.
Watch for more exciting developments in the antenna space from CommScope in the future. We, with Argus, already are hard at work!
